Peabody Nails: Experience the difference

Peabody Nails is owned by Xuan Cammy Vu, but she is best known as Cammy. The business has been open for 12 years. According to Cammy, there are two permanent employees--Cammy and Jimy--but they hire a third employee during the summertime. They are the busiest during the summer and prom season. They have a steady local clientele year round. Their services include manicures, pedicures, full set, and waxing. For students they offer a 10% discount with proper ID. They take appointments and they also do walk-ins. Forms of payment include cash and credit. MasterCard, Visa, and Discover cards are accepted.

The space isn’t that big. There could be an up and downside to that. The size makes it cozier. The size could be a problem when it starts to get busy the amount of space for each customer could be limited. Since they do have a steady clientele it is easy for them to have more personal conversations. The do have a television which makes good for people that are waiting. Everything was neat.

I would recommend going to this nail salon. They are very personable and they are fully engaged in the needs of the customer.

Review of Petrillos Italian Kitchen

My visit to Petrillo’s was the first time I have been to an Italian restaurant. I didn’t what to expect. Going in, it felt like I was in someone’s dining room. Everyone was so friendly. My waitress was very attentive and made sure I was ok. My roommates and I ordered a variety of food so that we could get a feeling for everything that they were offering. We started off with a Greek salad. It was different because I never had pickles and hots in a salad. Since I was the only one that was 21 in the group, I also got to taste wine. I learned a lot about wine. The waitress had a great knowledge of everything.

We ended ordering chicken caprese, which is sautéed chicken, fresh mozzarella and tomato in light marina; marinated steak tips; and linguini alla olio, which is linguini tossed in garlic and extra virgin oil.

The prices were reasonable, considering the portions. There was a lot of food. We didn’t finish it. Overall, I would rate Petrillo’s with 5 stars. Everything was to my satisfaction. I would definitely go back, and I recommend the restaurant to anyone for a date. Although it’s not the best atmosphere for small children, it would be a great place for a family occasion, as well.

Petrillo's Restaurant

Bottle of red, bottle of white, it is the perfect scene from the beautiful country of Italy. At Petrillo’s Restaurant, you can experience a trip to Tuscany right in the heart of Downtown Peabody.

Petrillo’s is perfect for any occasion. Whether you would like the intimate feel dining in their dining room, or grabbing a homemade meal to go, Petrillo’s is the place to be. Catering is also available, so why not allow the restaurant to do the cooking for your next party. It eliminates stress for you. They do ask that you give 24 hours notice, and for larger orders, at least two weeks.

The dining area can get busy, but reservations are available, and always a good idea. If you can’t make it in, delivery is available Tuesday through Friday during lunch hours for free with a $10 minimum purchase.

The restaurant specializes in pasta entrees on top of chicken, eggplant, and steak entrees as well. Need a quick snack? Grab a slice of pizza. If you are eating light, they offer over a dozen types of salads, all reasonably priced. Petrillo’s has a diverse menu for anyone to enjoy, and the restaurant prides themselves on the satisfaction of the customers.

Sugarcane Review

Sugarcane Restaurant 非常好吃 !
Having previously blogged about the interior/design and first impressions about the Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant Sugarcane, I returned to give you a full review of the dining experience it offers its patrons. What I can tell you honestly is that the Sugarcane restaurant is  非常好吃 (very delicious).

My girlfriend and I returned to the restaurant to sample its cuisine and service. As we were the first time, we were kindly greeted by the hostess and were immediately shown to a vacant table, we were handed two menus and were told that we would be waited on shortly.

My girlfriend and I, being the overly exciting couple that we are, decided that we would play it safe (like we always do) and order off the menu things we have had before and really enjoyed. Thinking about it now, since we had never been here before, you could technically consider we were ordering items we never tasted before.

Sesame chicken, lo mien, fried rice, chicken wings and fingers and fried spring rolls is what was on the menu. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. When ordering in a Chinese restaurant you are usually never really waiting anymore than ten to fifteen minutes for your meal, Sugarcane performed the ten to fifteen minute wait without fail. Sugarcane’s food was incredibly delicious and was just the right size for my girlfriend and I to handle. Our meal conversation was filled with many “mmm this is really good, here try this.”

In the end, with its friendly service, and urban unique design, cleanliness and food, my girlfriend and I have officially labeled the Sugarcane Restaurant a place we are going to go back to. I urge everyone who is reading this to try out the Sugarcane located on 106 Main Street in Peabody.

Once again, Sugarcane's website is www.sugarcanepeabody.com.

Sugarcane Restaurant: Not entirely what I was expecting.

The Sugarcane restaurant located on 106 Main St., Peabody, MA (Downtown) was not entirely what I thought it was going to be. Hearing the name Sugarcane I instantly assumed that I would be blogging about a bakery or maybe even a Mexican themed restaurant. Perhaps maybe even a mix of my two thoughts and have it turn out to be a Mexican bakery, this was not the case.

Sugarcane restaurant is actually a Gourmet Chinese & Vietnamese Cuisine. A restaurant that has dine-in, take out, full bar and catering, and delivers to the Peabody and Salem area. Having been fooled by my own hypothesis on what the restaurant was, I proceeded to enter and to ask to speak to the Sugarcane owner.

My first personal experience in the restaurant was quite pleasing. For starters I instantly noticed how clean the restaurant was. Its style and furniture was modernized, unlike most Chinese restaurants I have been in, which try to go old traditional Chinese/Vietnamese culture. It's bar, though not entirely large, was very clean, and modernized, and looked like bars you would see in movies (at the very least I think so). Sadly, I had arrived during the middle of the day and was unable to see the bar fully in action.

The Sugarcane staff was very kind to my girlfriend and I. The hostess kindly greeted us, but seemed to get quite nervous when I instantly asked to speak to the owner. Having waited only moments, Kevin Lin, the Sugarcane owner greeted me kindly and asked if anything was wrong. Having explained myself, that I was a Salem State Communications student and I was interested in blogging about his restaurant, he started to laugh, a lot. Thinking his laughing would result in a "no" actually turned into "Wow, I have never had anyone ask me that before, sure you can! Blog away!"

Looking at Sugarcane's menu, I am actually excited for my next visit back. A lot of the food on the menu is relatively cheaper than most Chinese restaurants I have been to in the past. I have high hopes that the restaurants food matches it's impressive inside appearance. I also hope to find out why Boston Globe quoted "...We decided we happily return to Sugarcane for the Taste and for our Health." (Jan. 2008)

Fire Bull Restaurant

Looking for good food but can’t come up with anything specifically? You need a place that has over 10 types of meat, pasta, and chicken as well as pork to fill your craving.

Fire Bull Restaurant is a Brazilian steakhouse located in Downtown Peabody, less than 15 miles from Boston, and borders the historic City of Salem.

The steakhouse offers an all-you-can eat Brazilian BBQ, as well as a full menu for dinners that will satisfy any appetite. Unlike most buffet-style restaurants, Fire Bull has a full staff of greeters and waiters to personalize your experience. Fire Bull recommends starting with an appetizer and/or salad, and moving to the BBQ, all priced reasonably.

If you find yourself in the area any time between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., take advantage of the low prices. You could be enjoying a meal for as little as $3. Customers are able to control their portions using Fire Bull’s “pay by the pound” option, allowing you to control size and prize. The menu also includes desserts prepared by the outstanding chefs.

In addition to the full-service dining, Fire Bull also has the options for take-out, delivery, and catering services.

As their website says, “Fire Bull is a celebration of great food, Brazilian & American traditions and cuisine, culture, life, friends, family, community and the quintessential pastime of BBQ. Absolutely incredible BBQ.”

Welcome to Downtown Peabody!

Downtown Peabody features shops, salons, a thriving restaurant scene, and a public library that offers high-quality programs for adults and kids. The city received a $1.25 million grant in 2008 that has helped draw 17 new businesses downtown in only two years--no mean feat.

Unfortunately, many people consider Main Street a corridor to Salem, not realizing the great options they're driving past.

If you haven't been downtown lately, check it out. A team of students from Salem State University's Communications Department is doing just that this semester; they'll blog about their experiences here. Thanks for reading!
